I have the 124060 and 226570 (black dial). I have a 7.1 inch wrist. They compliment each other very nicely. I love them both.

If you asked me which I prefer to wear, I would say the Explorer. It’s a bit less “showy”, a bit more utilitarian, fits my wrist a bit better and is more interesting to look at in my opinion.

If you asked me which one, if forced to choose, I would keep - then I would say the Sub.
Which I appreciate, makes little sense.

Also depends on the office environment, if you wear suit then sub maybe more suitable but if casual the. polar all day all night.

If it 's your only or part of a collection, I think every watch enthusiast needs a Sub.
The Exp2 is more unique and wears great though.

I am a Submariner fan and currently own a Hulk, SD43 and both the black and white dial Explorer II's. I find the Submariners to be a great watch and one that most collectors of Rolex own. With that said, I prefer the Explorer II in either dial color to the basic Submariner, either Date or ND. It is more unique, sits flatter to the wrist and the dial is amazing. You also do not see them everywhere and they are slightly under the radar for a Rolex. There are also many options in the dive watch world that I currently prefer, Pelagos, Black Bay 41, Seiko SLA's and SPB's at a fraction of the price to a new Submariner, just to name a few. Consider stepping out of the safe/obvious choice and explore a different watch. Pun on words. No bad choice, only a choice. Let us know what you decide.

Sub Date 41 v. ExII Polar

I own the 1167110LN and my next Rolex will be this:

There is no need for a Submariner.

If you really can use a turning bezel why then the sub. If traveling then the ex2. I prefer the ex2, as you won’t see many around. My husband has an ex 2 and wears it much more than his wg sub. The ex 2 is under appreciated.

Yea, kind of says it all. It’s always the Rolex Submariner.
You can use the Submariner as a timing bezel and GMT bezel. It’s the most versatile watch in the catalog.

Sub date. Classic, timeless, greatest watch Rolex makes. The only watch you really need. Everything else is just collecting for fun and profit.

I get the appreciation and attraction of a cult watch like the Sub (rigorously in its simplest ND variant for me, by the way).

But to say that an Explorer II cannot be worn in a smart casual / business attire is excessive and unfair. It is a beautiful and practical no-nonsense less-blingy upmarket watch / manly-accessory.

I wear mine often and know of other colleagues who also appreciate wearing theirs (in black). It is a well-appreciated watch in my professional environment. And to be honest, the sub would not be considered the best choice when more formally dressed.

My 2 cents...

Hard to go wrong with either. I have both. Hard to beat a white dialed Rolex for “The Office”.

For me, my 216570 is my office watch because I’m always hopping time zones, flights, and it flys under the radar.

I’m usually wearing my divers when I’m not flying and home at the Beach.

I love the Polar Exp II. But the Sub is the icon and can go with literally anything. The real answer is both.

I’m with you here. I am going through a similar decision as OP and my thoughts are very similar to yours. I enjoy the functionality of the Exp 2 and that it flies under the radar. If it didn’t have the cyclops, many would have no idea it’s a Rolex. I also agree that there are many many other less expensive, equally capable divers out there. For me, i think the choice is exp 2. OP, depending on your line of work, the Exp might be a great fit. Good luck with your choice.

Currently own both and prefer my 216570 Explorer II for daily wear. The vast majority of Rolex watches I see being worn by men are Submariners. It’s for a good reason, as it is in my opinion the most iconic watch ever made. I will never sell by 114060 but prefer to wear it only on the weekend and the rest of the time wear something more unique that flys under most people’s radar.

Doesn't matter what we prefer. It's your watch.

Polar 100%. I've owned both and ended up selling my sub. Didn't do anything to me. I still have the Polar and love it. It is a better watch.

Sub Date 41 v. ExII Polar

The explorer 2 would be my choice. Preferably in white. Seeing as your collection is “entirely Panerai”, it would add variety to your collection.

I have both and love both, but I think if I could only have one Rolex and sell all my others, I'd keep my Polar Explorer II. The latest iteration is perfect.

I have both so here's my 2 cents...

I have a 2020sub date and 2020 Explorer II polar. My sub date is classic and beautiful....in my watch winder box. Only because I find that I use my polar as my daily. Seriously I wear it as my daily surprisingly. I thought I'd wear my sub more but not even close.

If it’s an only rolex, I’d say sub for sure! The polar is to be added to a collection, not an only rolex watch imho
