I use a little dawn for all my watches - steel, gold, etc. A little goes a long way.

People say dawn can be hard on the gaskets. Not sure if there is any truth to it. I use dawn about once a month on mine.

If you can wash your hands with it you can wash your watch with it

What do people use in the u.k

I tend to wash it with fairy after doing the washing up and rinse with plenty of plain water.

I use a babies extra soft toothbrush for the fiddly bits

Used to use dishsoap and a soft or baby toothbrush. Now, I use products designed for cleaning metal watches. Wristclean.

The typical body or hand soap leaves residue. Or a film on the watch. So, don’t suggest it.

For me, found that for day to day use, with wristclean I don’t have to rub or use a brush. Spray, let it work. Then use deionized or bottled water to rinse. With that type of water, no need to dry (again rubbing. So, potential micro marring) with a microfiber towel, etc. Just air dry.

With deep cleaning, I use an Ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. ONLY for (metal) bracelet and clasp. brush the case with wristcleans a brush and their product to clean the case, crystal, etc. Rinse with clean bottled water or deionized water.

If I am out and about - don’t have the products, hot water and dish soap. I submerge the watch in the soapy water for however long you think. That softens whatever’s on the watch. Then, rinse with water. Dry with softest cloth around. Like my shirt, pants, whatever. Repeat, as necessary.

You may not need to go those depths. Up to you.

I use Optisoap on mine. I get it at my eye doctor's office. It's for washing your hands prior to handling contact lenses - to get all oils and contaminants off your skin. So, it's good for getting oily residue and dirt off the watch. I use a makeup brush - specifically a Sonia G Smudger 2 made with Saikoho Goat Hair - to clean my watch.

Soaps designed to clean your hands or body are not a good choice for cleaning watches (or eyeglasses for that matter) because such soaps are likely to leave a film. A dish soap such as Dawn is a better choice. I also like the WristClean products and pre-moistened eyeglass wipes such as those made by Bausch and Lomb.

Not true as long as you rinse well after in running clean water you could use any soap product that's safe for your skin,. Just pat dry with any clean cotton type cloth after,in general Rolex watches are made mostly from SS and don't need any special pampering.

Everything I wrote is true. You could use any soap product that is safe for your skin, but some of them may leave a residue or film regardless of rinsing. Why not choose the best product for the job? If you don't want to spring for something like WristClean, Dawn is readily available and cheap.

Well been wearing Rolex watches for well over 50 and never needed anything other that soap and water and thats what Rolex recommends themselves, and never ever had any problems. Regular washing is the key factor no need for any of these Phoo Phoo special spays, or special brushes and wiping cloths. I guess Dawn is a American brand washing up liquid much like the thousands of others sold world wide.

YG DD here: Generic dish soap, diluted in water, with a soft bristle tooth brush. Pat dry with a clean hand towel then let air dry on the table for little.

Dawn, as it gets all the finger oil out of the watch and leaves no residue like moisturizer.

Any soap will do, but I avoid chemicals.
