For what it's worth, I saw someone at my local AD have great success by using the tweezers to compress the bars and hold the bracelet in place and moving the case onto it rather than the other way round!

I have tried it but struggle to get the angle right and always end up with the tweezers loosing grip on the spring bars

Agree with this. I've swapped bracelets on many watches using a ~$20 Amazon tool. As they say, a good carpenter never blames their tools.
