I'm with you...........the IWC Pilot Chrono is one of the classiest watches around. As great and good looking of a watch as the Speedy is, they are a dime a dozen.

The speedmaster is CLASSIC. Though, why then am I dreaming non-stop about the new Tudor Heritage?

True classic, and watch that looks and FEELS much more expensive than it is. Best bang for bucks , and watch for all seasons (and planets, of course)!
Maybe I'm dense, but in real life, a winding watch and an automatic are essentially the same, no? I mean, don't wear either for 2 days and you need to wind it. Am I missing something?

Yes, but if it's a daily wearer, or you wear it every other day, an automatic won't need winding. The Speedy needs it every day.

My bad, I thought the Speedy had a time reserve of about 40 hours or so?

Maybe I am being snobbish or misguided or both, but I would see Omega as an aspirational brand, appealing to people who are attracted more by marketing than true inherent quality. Even judging by the kinds of shops that sell both watches, IWC wins out. Top-quality timepieces are just not sold in mass market stores (e.g. Goldsmiths in the UK). Omega is perhaps a small step or two above Tag Heuer, another triumph of marketing over design and function.

IWC is far more subtle and the watches speak for themselves, rather than by reference to what celebrity has been seen advertising them. Both watches perform admirably, but if performance was the main criteria, we would all be wearing Casio or Seiko.

For me, there is no choice. The simple, rugged beauty and elegance of the IWC Pilot Chronograph wins over the garrulous egocentricity of the Speedmaster.

Well it technically does, but keeping up an every other day winding schedule is much harder than just winding it every day as most Speedy owners do.
