when i was starting with Rolex i went ahead with a few purchases w/o B+P since i was a bit naive then also thinking that the warranty papers were already outdated on my purchases and i wouldn't be carrying the box around when i wear my watch. but then the bug hit me and i felt the itch to upgrade and sell my Rolex, the price were reasonable but sans the B+P they were a bit lower than with the B+P for same model and age. from then on, i would only buy pre-owned with B+P, or at the very least with papers so if i wanted to re-sell, i can get more off the reselling to fund the next watch

Thank you all for sharing your views on the value of the box and papers with a modern Rolex .
I'm very happy with the watch and if it hadn't been for the descriptions with listings on Ebay and here on TRF insisting the watches come with box and papers I would never have bothered in the first place as I personally do not really care for box and papers as long the watch is fine. The shop has now made a counter offer of 350 euro compensation with the option to buy the box and papers for the same amount in the event they obtain them from the seller , an offer I have accepted . They will credit my CC with that amount early next week . This is way the best Rolex forum I have come across and I shall continue to read the many excellent posts . |

I see the B&P as very important, and it definately makes life harder when selling for sure. I sold my 16710 a year or so back for £2400 with no papers (I got robbed at home whilst I was wearing the watch) and the watch was worth £2800-£2900 all day long if it had had papers...
I would say 250 euros is not enough even if you intend to keep it. 1000 euros would be more in the ball park IMO.

I am not a collector nor profess unique knowlege of collecting or values. I am, however, an appreciator of Rolex watches and while I would prefer box and papers, it's not a deal breaker for me. With that said, a watch out of warranty really doesn't need the warranty paper. However, a fresh RSC certificate is a plus as it speaks to the condition of the watch and assures you that it is not a reported stolen watch.. If I really wanted a box eBay could suffice but the RSC paper and a fresh service is worth something both in dollars and in peace of mind.

I don't buy Rolex watches that are not complete. I flip a lot of watches and the only one I had problems with is one without papers. So papers are important if you change your mind and trade or sell the piece. How much? My guess is ~15%. You can do the math on the DSSD. Also I have had deals broken because of hangtags and bezel protectors. These are easily replaced. Original Rolex paper, priceless.
Just my take. |

What matters most is the watch is authentic.. I purchased plenty watches from people without original document went to rolex to get either the watch serviced or gotten a service estimate without any problems. About a year ago i purchased a deep sea V serial with box tags manual without original warranty card for 6900 from a seller on craigslist in ny .
i serviced the watch from rolex ny and they gave me replacement paperwork .. then i sold it to a friend for 8700 about 3 months ago. Rolex papers are better to have as an alternative. So if this dealer did you dirty i would go to Rolex get a service estimate and take your receipts with you if they try to confiscate it.. most likely my friend you won't have an issue. a sedweller is a classic always will be enjoy the watch... |

To the OP, since you have acccepted the deal, you should keep all receipt you got from the dealer. However even with that, if a few years down the line, you send the watch to RSC for service and they said it was reported stolen and the owner has the box and paper to prove it, you could be in a difficult situation. One scenario could be something like this: someone rob the original owner of the watch, sold it to the dealer with a story about bringing in the box and paper later, but obviously never did. Do hope this is not the case. |

buying pre-owned from a reputable seller is just fine because most, if not all have some means to determine if the watch is stolen or not. they would also keep paperwork, ID of whom they purchased it from.
if a watch was indeed stolen, there would be a hassle of course to try to recover the money from a reputable seller but it should not be impossible. personally, i don't mind a buying a watch without B+P, but only from a reputable seller and i would keep my purchase receipts. of course, it should be cheaper than one with B+P. then again, if someone were to steal a watch complete in the box, how would that go? |

It has been all said, but..... Box can be purchased for $130. When I sell a watch I usually factor in $200 to $300 less if the warranty certificate is not available.
A sincere apology and 250 Euro ($350) is reasonable compensation. Congratulations on the Seadweller!

It sounds like the shop (the middle man in this particular transaction) are unable to provide an honourable service, i.e. deliver on the what they said they would.
You agreed to buying it on certain terms and those terms have not been fulfilled. Did you get a written receipt or something stating that box and papers were included? If not, and you really are wanting some form of documentation then I guess your best bet now is for the service centre to provide you with paperwork proving it's authenticity. Not ideal, but it will do. I would insist on the store giving you the money needed for the service which will in turn provide you with the relavant document you may want. Also tell them you want a box. To be honest though by them offering you a small refund it's almost like them admitting fault and knowing full well you are not going to get these items. |
