Seas the day,
on going out of your way for your husband's pre-birthday celebration. I think you will be giving him the watch in the car on the way to dinner!

Tat is great. Has anybodybought a watch from Melrose Rolex wholesalers? If you have please advise as to the quality and reputation. I'm looking to by a watch but want to make sure of the Origanality as there are so many fakes around.

What a wonderful story, Seas The Day. Let me add my welcome to TRF. First of all, we're glad you found this place and were able to gain some education to help you in your purchase. Second, thank you for sharing this saga with us. And third, So how did the Pre-Birthday dinner go? We're all waiting on pins and needles for the outcome.
BTW, the Anniversary GMT is a beautiful watch. Your husband should be thrilled to receive it and wear it. Best wishes to both of you.

Welcome to TRF. Everything appropriate has already been said. Your husband will be over the moon with your very thoughtful, excellent gift. You did a great job with the photos as well.
Please keep us informed after he receives his gift. Perhaps he will be spurred to join TRF himself and learn the great stretch of history that lies behind his new watch. Cheers, and thanks for sharing with us!

My YM is my most prized possession and it was given to me by my wife on our wedding day. That is what makes it special, not just he fact that it was an expensive watch. I needed the clasp serviced and the AD wanted to exchange it for a new YM, I refused, that exchanged watch would not have been the ONE that my wife gave me.
He loves it I am sure, please post and tell us his reaction, did you make it through dinner or did he get this awesome gift as soon as you all were seated? |

Well, I didn't get a discount on my TT GMT C "Green Arrow"
and it is still my favorite of the 5 Rolexes I've owned over the years. I think your husband will LOVE it, particularly because of the effort you went through to get it for him.
But he won't like being 50......... trust me on this |

Hopefully this works, I've been having trouble posting a reply.
Sorry I made you wait so long for the results! I do recall telling about the gifting on another thread, but don't remember what I wrote, so forgive me if I repeat myself. I had called and told the restaurant it was my husband's birthday - but not to say anything to him, because it was early, and I wanted to surprise him. When we got to the restaurant, I repeated my instructions to the hostess. Meanwhile, I had a BIG purse, with a big (and heavy) box inside it, that my husband had not noticed at all. We sit at the table and the waitress comes to ask if we'd ever been to the restaurant before (it was a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse) and congratulations, she saw that someone was celebrating their birthday. My husband looked confused, and I said, "we're celebrating his 50th" motioning in his direction, to which he responded, "it's not my birthday yet," to which I responded, "but we're celebrating tonight" and I pulled out his gift. I was not thrilled that the waitress initiated the timing, but so be it. In any case, we went through all the ordering stuff, and then my husband opened the box. I thought he knew what I was up to (I had pointed out a Rolex at our local AD and asked his opinion of it just one month before) but in fact he was surprised. I think it took him a little time to get used to the fact that I bought him the watch, and I got all nervous that he might not like the GMT Master II as much as some other models and I insisted that he look at all the Rolexes at the AD (not many) to make sure he got the one that HE liked best. Unfortunately I'd/we'd given him the watch on Saturday night of Labor Day weekend, so he wasn't able to get links removed from his bracelet, or look at other watches until Tuesday. He said he wanted to keep the watch that WE picked out, but I really wanted to make sure HE liked the one we picked out because it's a lot of money to spend if you're just planning to "settle." So, he is now wearing his watch each day. Not one person has mentioned it! I was rather shocked about that, but my girlfriend says, "people don't mention the Rolex on your wrist, they merely notice it and act accordingly." She wears her mother's Datejust which she has worn for the last 15 years, and her mother wore for 15 years before that. In any case, the bill has been paid, and I hope my husband feels very good with a Rolex on his wrist... but not so good that this is the first of many. |

Glad to know that the evening went well and your husband is enjoying the GMT II! Just introduce him to the forum and let him carry the burden of the addiction

I knew he would love it. You really can't appreciate it until you have one to wear. Christmas is coming, maybe you will get a big heavy box in return.

Ruth's Chris? As in the steakhouse outside of Detroit?
If so, you are only two hours from me. |
