I work at one of the dot coms that survived the crash 7 years ago, plus we are on the DC beltway, so Rolex is a common sight. I live in Annapolis, and in that town you can't swing a dead cat without hitting some guy with two tone.
Family hasn't really noticed, since I have always worn a black diver-looking watch. Having a 14060m is like being a new 2nd Lieutenant. Sure, you are an officer now, but you still have to salute every other officer in the Army because they all outrank you. Well, maybe the Air-King would be like a Warrant Officer. |

Unless you deliver pizza or bag groceries for a living, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. A used Sub for example could be purchased for a reasonable amount. About the same as a week (or less) on vacation...

No comments -- just head shaking
That's the things about Rolex, everyone recognizes them. Of course, when you wear Lange or VC only about 1 in a 3000 even recognize the name, let alone have a clue about watch itself or the cost. Never had a comment on either except in watch stores.

Only the fake comment
I don't think most understand how much it costs. One person, years ago when I first purchased mine made a comment about my fake Rolex. Now that bugged me a bit.

About 2/3 of the officers wear/have some type of Rolex, mostly Subs, Yachtmasters and GMT's. Never been asked about the wrist wear from fellow coworkers. Believe me-Rolex can stand up to some extremely harsh enviroments out here while fishing in the Pacific and Bering. Quality

I believe there are more fake watches in my office than real ones. So for the most part almost know one comments on them.
With that said I had an engineer at work give me the following advice. “It’s a waste for you to wear a Rolex here as we do not work in an environment where we need to impress people.” It’s a good thing I don’t really care what he or the others think. |

People don't comment on my watch. I am in the legal profession, and wear a suit during the day, so it doesn't really stand out as unusual or particularly extravagant.
I know quite a few police officers who wear a Sub when they are out on patrol, in uniform. While Rolexes are very durable, I always thought that was an odd thing to do. I never commented on it, though. |
