There may be less purely fake vintage watches, but I'd be willing to bet that a large number of speciality vintage Rolex watches (the Tiffany dial and the like) are in some way falsely represented. That's the sort of thing that takes a watch from $15,000 to $5,000, and I personally wouldn't be comfortable trying to figure out what is original and what isn't.

The vintage market is a real jungle with all frankenwatches and redials going on.
