Buying a Rolex is unlike "cash" in that there is invariably the j-curve effect. Once you buy the watch, you need to insure it and possibly service it if per-owned, hence the Rolex has a deflationary effect for a time unless bought at significant discount to market. And even if bought new, unless at a significant discount and out of state to avoid tax hit, after factoring in some wear and tear, it will take time to recoup your initial investment as someone won't buy from you for what you paid when they can likely buy brand new from a trusted seller with stickers, hangtag, new watch smell etc.

So, in my humble opinion, if you err on the side of caution, sell a few of your least favorite watches, which you will likely take a hit on if bought recently in exchange for funding the more important engagement ring. Then you have a wedding ring to consider, the wedding etc. I just got married and it was more expensive than I could have ever imagined. Way above budget, but the best money ever spent. Happy wife, happy life.

This is reality and anyone telling you cash and Rolex are lateral moves is dead wrong if you do the math (unless you can buy at dealer cost). And you can only sell in a flash if you sell one of your watches very reasonably. If not, factor in the time value of money.

Since you don't seem to have a stash of cash laying around that makes you feel more than comfortable, I would suggest you consider cash to be king for you at this stage. The watches will always be there in the future. My 2c. Wishing you and yours a healthy and happy life.

I'm genuinely on the fence here. I continue to go back and forth.

I think ultimately, I'm going to just keep doing exactly what I'm currently doing. I'm going to simply hold off and think.

I do believe tho, at the end of the day, I don't want to ever sell the watches because "I have to". I dont want to rush the sale because i need cash fast. If I sell them, I want to take my time and get the right price. Right now, I'm in a secure place financially and id like to stay there.

I'm thinking they will both go up in the near future, and I'll take my time with the sale.

Why not forget the ring and just let the girlfriend borrow the watches (as long as she leaves a deposit) that way you're on a win win situation. You wear it or look at it on her wrist. At all times you own the watches and meanwhile can be saving up for your next one.
Sorted!

I agree, especially because you love your girlfriend. I wouldn't want to say anything too flammable here knowing that this is THE Rolex Forums, but I would sell the two watches because you don't know how fast you could liquidate those watches and I prefer piece of mind to the luxuries of 3 Rolexes. You could try and sell your two watches on TRF directly but many people would prefer to buy from DavidSW, justrolexes, or some of the other really well-known sellers on TRF. I've seen simple individuals trying to move their Rolex on the classified section with 50 bumps and 20 price drops because they don't have the reputation which is so important when bank wiring someone thousands of dollars. Or you could sell to those guys directly but likely they will offer a bit less than what you are expecting for that reason.

The ring to me would be more important than the prospect of three watches, and the perfect ring you might find might be a bit more than that where you might need to sell a watch or two. You could always buy the same model back LNIB from TRF, but you only get married once hopefully and during this time of your life you'll want to be financially secure and have a peace of mind as you begin your life married to your wife. Just my opinion.. but Congrats hope for the best for you.
