I bought a brand new Datejust II in February 2011 from a AD in Kuala Lumpur.
After very little use at home, I decided to leave my GMT Master 2 home and take the new watch to Singapore for a few days to see my mate get married. On arrival, the watch had stopped and then after a gentle shake, it would run for 30 seconds then stop for good. Annoyed ? - you bet. I took it back to the dealers when I returned to KL and they kept it for 8 weeks to have it repaired overseas I guess. Their initial diagnosis was that a jewel had come adrift and the movement needed a complete rebuild. Strange really considering it has never been dropped or abused. They would not entertain a new one but to their credit, they fitted a new bracelet for me as they found a few issues with the original. So far, it runs OK but out of the two I lovingly own, the 16718 I have is a hard act to follow !

You realize this is a horrible analogy.

Just curious, is the price of Rolex in KL is on par with the Rolex in S'pore now? I was an expat in S'pore years ago and in those days people buy expensive watches in HK and S'pore because there were no import duties in those two places.

I would want a new one. No question, considering the amount of money these watches cost. I'm 35 and definitely not wealthy. It takes me years to save money for a Rolex. I'd expect them to make it right.

I returned it to the AD this week. They have done a great job so far, and I realize it's not their fault. They spoke with someone from Rolex, who apparently told them that this isn't the first time this issue has come up. Apparently they have redesigned a part to prevent this, but it must not have been in my watch, and I have no way to verify whether this is even true or not. In any event, the watch was returned to Rolex for servicing, and I hope to have it back as soon. The AD did not have any other Daytonas to replace it with, so the warranty service is my only option (and to be fair, I think it's reasonable - but frustrating).

I'm lucky enough to have a Sub to wear until it returns, but once you wear a Daytona, it's really hard to go back to a Sub again.

Thanks for the update. I hope it turns out well for you and that it ends up being a minor issue.

Glad to see that it is being attended to. As for "having" to wear your Sub, there are millions of people out there who would kill for the chance to wear a Sub.
Love your Sub as well as your Daytona.
If only I could afford a second Rolex.......

It can happen....but do not give up on this watch for what is most likely just a temporary hiccup

Less than a week old... You need a brand new one.. And I'd demand it!!!! Or else I'd call your lawyer... You can't just sell a 10K+ watch, and it stop working!

X2...I would not be happy at all to have a week old Rolex that needed servicing...no way I would personally accept that outcome.

Hey, if you're ok with it, then enjoy it when you get it back!
