I love the DSSD. The Sub is a great watch, but the DSSD just looks and feels so impressive. Despite having a classic Rolex movement, I think the DSSD is one of the most technologically advanced watches in it's price range.
I think getting a smaller, gold watch like the Daytona is a great idea - gives you something completely different and easier to wear with tight cuffs. |

Good luck waiting on that. I predict at least 2 or 3 years. They have not even put it in the 2 tones yet not to mention the waiting lists that will probably be started. Unlike the Subs etc the ceramic bezel is not protected by an outer steel ring so I bet we will see some chipping for people who wear it every day. Even Omegas new blue 9300 Speedmaster has a ceramic bezel with a steel rim.
Go with the current SS now. It holds its value. You can always sell it in 3-5 years when and if the ceramic SS version becomes readily available |

Dmitri,
I have most of the professional line that Rolex sells. I love the DSSD! It is a beast and just looks awesome. Who cares if you have some of the same type watches. I have 5 subs and a DSSD, love them all. But I will say that the SS Daytona is also a beauty. I have the Black dial and it is really a special watch. Get what you really want. In time I am sure you will add more. I am at a point where I don't have an itch for other references that I don't own. After you get the DSSD then go full board on saving for your YG Daytona! Don't wait for a possible change in the Daytona, it might not come for a while. |

I too recently took the DSSD plunge !! Its slated to arrive early next week. Given all the technology that has gone into its production, it really is a special and unique piece. Plus I like items that are over engineered as I tend to buy things for their long term usage.
I had the Sub C and enjoyed it....will probably get another one down the road....but something about the DSSD checks all the boxes. |

Dmitri, get the DSSD, like the other owners said, it just feels so good on the wrist, it has a nice presence and I am enamoured with it . I have no regrets at all and I have had it for a few months in m collection. Right now it is hogging all my wrist time!

You sound like a DSSD guy to me. Just a hunch. I think they look so cool and have a very different presence than the Sub-C.

DSSD is an awesome watch and pretty noticeable from a distance. I think it has a lot to do with the size. I saw it in Argo on Affleck and it totally stood out. Totally out of the period of that film, but great ad placement.

Thanks for all the advice, you guys got me hyped. DSSD it remains.
DC Engineer, DSSD was awesome to see in Argo, even if it didn't match the period. Anybody using a RubberB band? Really thinking to throw that on immediately.

Good decision to go with the watch you are enamoured with. However I know the Gold Daytona is your grail so I'd just think if not buying the DSSD can get you there quicker would it be worth passing on it now?

Even if i was to save for the daytona, I would want the DSSD also. The daytona can wait i suppose, while i wrap my head around spending 30k on a watch.

I wouldn't do it.
I have the SDDS since 2009 and am actively looking to sell or trade it at present. Just for the record, my other Rolexes are a vintage GMT II Coke, a Daytona TT and a steel Oyster. The SDDS is a divers tool. Certainly an impressive and not-so-common timepiece, but for my wrist (6.75") and activities not a necessary acquisition. This is what I found out after owing it all those years. Of course your planned use, activities, etc. may as well differ considerably. If you are going to go at some stage for a YG Rolex, the money you'll fork out now to get the steel Deep Sea are a significant part of the all-gold watch's price. This is good to keep in mind. If you skip the SDDS now, the YG Rolex comes closer and closer to you. On the other hand of course you may want to go for it, enjoy it for a year or two, then flip it and go for the all-gold one of your choice. Anything is possible, the choice is yours. It is a very thick and heavy watch, special on its own, some love it while others don't.

DSSD is not for everyone - this is for sure. I'm using it as a daily and I love the watch, but I can see how the weight and thickness could be an issue for some people. In a way, I like that the DSSD is not for everyone. Keeps it rare. I have never seen it in the wild. |

Get the DSSD, you wo'nt regret it. I got mine ± 6 weeks ago and the longest it spent in the safe was 1 day - you can't keep this beauty of your wrist !

My thoughts are if you go with the DSSD, and you really like it you Sub is going to seem too small. And the Daytona might be too small if you get used to the DSSD. My Breitlings which size wise were great watches and but after wearing my Sub and Daytona, they seem really huge. Your frame of reference just seems to shift.

The DS face in not bigger than the subc, it's only thicker. At one time I owned both, the sub will come out to be your daily watch.
