Certainly it would be the lowest budget option👍🏻
Maybe the 14060 would be your best bet, because not having the cyclops leads people to believe that you're wearing an homage or a fake.

You might also consider a Tudor Style, Ranger, or North Flag.

They're great watches and are not nearly as well known as Rolex.

Based on your criteria, I would say #3...214270. To me, a sub screams classic Rolex, not something that you seem to want. The 39mm case size of the 214270 will fit your wrist better. While I love Rolex, I would suggest that you take a look at a Tudor Ranger. I love mine and it gets lots of wrist time. 41mm case size, only says Rolex to the "in the know" folks on TRF and built to last! It also looks awesome on just about any strap or bracelet that you can imagine.

Here is the Tudor Ranger Owners Thread to entice you: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...=ranger+owners

In fact, you could get a Tudor Heritage Ranger AND Tudor Heritage Black Bay from trusted sellers here for $5000 for both. I will admit however, that my appreciation for Tudor may be greater having already been a Rolex owner for years. Not 100% sure that starting with Tudor would have been as satisfying for me, for some reason that I cannot put my finger on.

Really tempting and very nice photos of the 14270/114270

I would not go for the 214720 though, it's too modern for me, also don't like what many others pointed out about the hands' length and the matte dial.

I tried to like Tudor, but never managed. They're nice and all that, but it would bug me to death that it's ALMOST a Rolex and then again it's not

Icon10 It dawned on me...

As many before me, I too have realized I can't have only one Rolex. It just can't be done

Although I have not decided yet on the first one, but it's inevitable that I will end up with one of the combos below:

Exp 1 / ND Sub

Exp 1 / Exp 2

Exp 2 / ND Sub

Thanks for all the help, opinions and advice here.

Much appreciated.

I have both, depending on work schedule I tend to alternate between my 114270 & OP 116000 with a suit (as they slip under the radar), casual days and weekends it's my 14060M or 16610LV....

Both are great watches but personally I prefer the sub - especially the 14060. Very versatile, solid, a superb tool watch for any occasion.

Consider an OP... Wearing mine today. More dial choices and for me more interesting than the Exp. 14060 is a great watch but a bit too informal for daily wear.

I like the simplicity of the dial on both reference. The OP dial is too cluttered to me, no offense though. Each to their own.

I own both but if I could only have one it would probably be the 14060M! Tough call though both would fit the bill.

1) Black, no-date sub. Does it get any more classic than that?

2) It is an amazingly low-profile watch and very understated.

3) I haven't checked recent prices and suspect $5,000 is a little low but still within ball park range.

4) My wrist is 6.5 inches. You'll have no problem with 7.5 inches.

5) As a classic, the 14060 is amazingly wearable as a daily watch in a range of situations.

6) See above. I wear mine to work all the time and work in a similar environment to the one you've described.

7) For versatility, see some of the following shots:

As a daily beater, the Submariner is an excellent choice. Very versatile watch.
