Another Horse?
Thanks so much for the feedback on these four choices. To no surprise the 5711 followed by the 5167 seem to be the "popular" choices of the forum. But what if I were to throw another horse in the race?
What about a white gold Day-Date 40mm (ref. 228239) with either a black, dark rhodium stripe or silver rhodium stripe dial? It is a gold watch, but without rhodium plating should maintain. The new caliber 3255 albeit a factory movement is quite interesting in its engineering. It is not haute horologerie but it is a bit of a different beast. What say you? Must Haves: 1) - 38-42 mm dia. and >14 mm in depth (40 mm) 2) - Stainless steel or ceramic case (white gold) 3) - >100 meter WR (screw down crown) (Yes) 4) - Automatic or hand wound movement (Yes) 5) - Stainless steel bracelet or rubber strap (white gold) Nice to Haves: 1) - Provides some level of brand and or aesthetic diversification (no to brand, but yes to aesthetics) 2) - Dial with lumed hands and chapter ring (Yes) 3) - A hand finished movement would be a plus (hacking seconds) (Yes, but a factory movement) 4) - A new complication of practical use (e.g. Large date, GMT etc.) is a plus (Day-Date, Yes) 5) - High quality bracelet/strap clasp, micro-adjust is a plus (No)

The DD is a great option as it brings PM into the game and could always manage the dress watch duty if required.
Only issues would be - a lot dark faced watches (how about the blue face? Some, great pics in another thread) - a lot bracelets (same goes for the 5711 though) - 50% would of the four would then be in Rolex (no bad thing per se) - no Patek. An issue for you ? |

Another vote for the PP 5711. We have very similar collections and my next target acquisition is the Nautilus. I flipped my Aquanaut because I was underwhelmed by it. It's one of the most comfortable watches I had the pleasure of owning but it lacked the wrist presence that I expected from a Patek. Some would call it understated and discreet but I personally found it to be a little boring. That's just me.
