Rolex is owned by a charitable trust, they have huge, untold cash reserves. If anything they will produce fewer watches, I see prices holding. I highly doubt price reductions will occur. But I was discussing the matter with a friend, he is hearing that discounting across the board will not be frowned upon like it was in the past. Do the math Rolex produces about 600,000 watches per year, and revenue was 3 billion in 03 (roughly $5,000 per watch)(how many price hikes ago?). What is the actual cost to produce the watch?? I believe that it is cheaper to produce now than it was in the 80's due to automation, cnc machinerey, gold is a variable but even a DD (Case, Bezel, Back) with a president bracelet only has 74.875 grams of pure gold a troy ounce is 31.1 grams so you are indeed buying the artistic value not the gold content @ $732 spot there is $1,762.33in gold in a DD/w president bracelet, and gold was high in the early 80's as well, the DD / President was a fraction of what it is now retail.

Just my humble $0.02, tho.
Good point about the glut. I just sold a gently used 92% "z" 16610 the other day for 3950. This was not a bad deal because it represented $150 more than I paid for it last year.

I was nervous because there are way to many lnib condition sub dates floating around out there for $4,000 - $4200. So I priced it to sell. I really believe that in August before this financial meltdown started I could have gotten north of $4400 for ther same watch.

I think dealers get this and discounts are going to become easier to come by and Rolex USA will turn a blind eye to all but the most egregious cases.

I agree they won't cut the price, they may maintain the price as is for a while to the market auto-corrects.

They were just increasing the prices here in the states so overseas buys dont fly in and fly out with a suitcase full of Rolexes.

I hadn't thought at all about discounts being easier to come by, but this is an excellent point. With the glut of used watches on the market dealers will be forced to discount BNIB and, you're absolutely correct, Rolex will not care except in extreme cases. I might just be able to get that Yachtmaster II after all.......
