OP, what if they don't get another for 2-3 years? you have not way of verifying, just believe what he tells you

ADs do get hard to find watches, just those are reserved for VIP clientele or high purchase clients

I would not be surprised if some ADs already have BLRO in safes stored, waiting for right client to sell, which would bring them $100k+ yearly purchases

unless you hold them to specific timeline of delivery, they will hold your $2k and get you one whenever it comes in and no other clients want, or willing to pay extra $2k or more.... which might be few Baselworlds away from today

My AD told me my position on the list would depend upon how much I have already spent in their store (which they will look up). The person who has spent the most apparently goes to the top of the list. Seems fair for them to favor their most loyal customers.

Many AD's have become a joke over these recent releases. Just remember, if you still want it 3 years from now when its available, you'll really know its the one... Parental rant over ;)

In my experience, the best way to deal with a petty, wanna-be gangsta (sounds more like a used car salesman) is to just out gangster him. After the AD ends up getting in 4 accidental fender benders in 2 days, you’ll get bumped to the top of that list very quickly.

And instead of buying it at a premium, I bet it ends up being heavily discounted.

AD's got to eat too. They know they'll only be receiving 1-2 a year, so why not maximize profit? You're still getting a bargain compared to the grey market, so why cry? :-)
Back in the days, people required 10% off a 116610LN...Now you're lucky if the AD even wants to sell to you at MSRP as they have a 6-12 months waiting list on it.
The market isn't what it used to be, so get used to it.

Thank you, sir.

Just like an actual relationship

I expected to get the watch like in 6 months. But now I should wait patiently.

What should I do if AD calls 6 months later. Saying that it's my turn to get the watch

I guess well wait and see if this is the sort of dealings Rolex wants to have going on with their brand. The AD reaps the benefits no doubt, but its undoubtedly turning people off to the brand. Will Rolex care at all, doubt it, but prying 2k out of customers to get on a wait list is bad business however you spin it.

I tried on a President just for fun and joked around if I could get a Daytona if I bought it. He said without hesitation that if I bought it, then there would be a Daytona waiting for me ASAP as in a couple of weeks.
Yeah it's against policy but such practice happens all the time. As Roger said, in Taiwan this is the way it goes, or if you want MSRP then buy a unpopular piece to go with it (usually they ask you to buy a Tudor).

You can report it but Rolex (or) PP won't do anything, face it, you or the AD is more important to them? AD moves the watch for them and makes money for them, you are just one customer they could do without.

If Rolex or PP (the two worst offenders) is serious about these kind of practices, then no AD would dare to ask over retail, but the fact that they do, means Rolex doesn't really enforce these policies.

I'd have a hard time paying MSRP for anything but in reality if I wanted that one I'd say show it to me then I'll show you my money.

Yeah, but then who's to say they won't take $2500 from another person to bump you down a spot

Yea it gets old. But it always comes down to two choices.

1. Pony up

2. Wait.
