I agree, there is no cure. You just end up collecting more or keep upgrading to more expensive ones. My dad's hand me down 36mm DJ got me hooked nearly 30 years ago.

Proof:

2 - years ago my collection was size = 1 (an heirloom piece handed down from my father) - 1970's Omega Constellation (love that piece!)

- Then 2 years ago finally acquired my first luxury watch that i paid for, a Breitling Avenger 2 Seawolf in yellow. -- perfect starter piece, that thing is like a tank.

- < 6 months ago, i acquired a PAM .. more expensive than the Breitling, love it too.

- last month I acquired my first Rolex, a beautiful 116613LB .. and even though i said i would baby this piece, i've now decided to make it a daily wear piece for now. (its too beautiful to not wear it).

.. And now .. i have found myself browsing some trusted sellers sites, drooling over what might be next..

perhaps an Omega Speedmaster Pro?? .. maybe a more classic PAM .. or can I really do a second Rolex already?? ..

i think i have a fever .. and the only prescription is ...

anyone else have these symptoms?

It’s actually been proven, shopping/buying can become addictive based on the strong release of endorphins. It’s not a sickness it’s an addiction, the drug, watches, although it may not land you in rehab, it may have severe consequences on your bank account.

Photo of the Omega Constellation that got me started. -- My father's two-tone constellation .. super classy, very timeless, it was in fairly rough shape when i got it, i had it overhauled, looks great 40+ years later.

only thing i left intact was the bracelet .. its super-stretched, i'm on the lookout for another TT constellation with matching bracelet to use as parts.

agreed .. its all fun and games until someone goes broke.. i waited long enough in my carreer before embarking on this adventure.

there are pieces that will remain aspirational for a while (and some forever) -- but i hope to one day buy something like the platinum daytona.

I am so glad I started late in life, great thread, nice to see so much community.

One thing though, once Basel comes we will all forget the consolidation of watches posts and start the feeding frenzy again, for better or worse.

I’m going down swinging
